Tai Chi for Health is a community led charity that was set up to provide Tai Chi classes to communities that might not normally have access to them. With a network of 26 trained volunteer instructors, we currently teach around 350 people every week, including the elderly in care homes, people with Parkinson’s and dementia, stroke and arthritis support groups and those simply trying to maintain their fitness.
The Tai Chi we teach is called Shibashi. It is a very easy exercise that can be practised standing or sitting. Tai Chi can have extraordinary health benefits because it is one of the few exercises that leaves people both energised and completely relaxed. The enjoyment of the activity releases feel good endorphins in the brain, while the easy movements increase blood flow.
